deconstructed stuffed cabbage
a dish that tastes like someone else cooked it for you, with care
Morning,
Writing to you today with a recipe.
And it occurred to me:
What you’ll need:
a big pot
1/2 a head of green cabbage
1 can of crushed tomatoes
tomato paste, a spoonful I guess?
1 tomato. I used a Roma one. Mostly just because buying and slicing into one make me really feel like I’m cooking
1 onion
ground turkey or beef or chicken
salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp of brown sugar
a dash of ketchup (it could have used more, I was at the bottom of a bottle)
1 cup of rice, if you want it
Instructions:
Chop the onion and sauté in olive oil until translucent
Cook the meat, add some salt
While the meat cooks, roughly chop the cabbage. Big chunks work great. And chop the tomato
Once the meat is cooked through, pour in the can of tomatoes, the fresh tomato and a big spoonful of tomato paste. Add the cabbage and stir
Bring to a simmer, cover the pot, and cook for 1 hour
Make rice
It’s EASY to make, and equally comforting.
Happy eating and thanks for reading,
